Gardening Time - Ordering seeds

One of my favorite times of year is the time where I get to plan my garden and order seeds. I love seeds, because I love plants. This year we are going to work a lot on growing our plants from seeds. I’m hoping to grow enough plants to have them for my garden and be able to sell them cheap ($0.50-$1) Just to cover the cost of the seeds and stuff we need for the garden. I don’t want to make a profit. I just want to cover my cost. I mean you get 300 onion seeds, I won’t need 300, if I can sell then to make up the difference that would be amazing. If not, I will give them away.

I’m chancing the way we are eating and also need spring and fall crops. From Baker Creek, I ordered onions, spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, luffa (I know I need that seed). I also ordered their Catalog, honestly that was the reason I went to their site. I love their catalog, it has so much awesome info in it. I can’t wait for the seeds to come in.

I also placed an order with Urban Farmer. This will be the 1st time I order through them. I got a coupon for 15% off for Cyber Monday. I need potato seeds for the year and asparagus, for the new asparagus garden. I will transfer asparagus roots we have but new roots will be nice too. I’m hoping that this company is better than the last one I used.

What seeds are you ordering for the year? Would you rather start from seeds or buy transplants? Check out my other 18-17 weeks before average date of last frost goals. Let me know what you are doing in the garden.

Gardening Goals ~ 18-17 Weeks Before Average Frost Date

The Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook has flipped to the being again. This is one reasons I love this book so much. I can use it over and over again. Can you believe we are going to start seeds for 2021 Garden!!! I’m so excited. 2020 Gardening has harvested 151.28lbs of food! 😄 My goal was 100 lbs. We are still harvesting celery, rosemary, and sage out of the garden. My garden has become completely kid friendly, meaning nothing but water is going on it. My littles are little most are 3 and under, they grab food and eat it. I don’t want them to fear eating anything.

18-17 Weeks before average frost date

v  Clean up around the green house. Work on organizing it.

v  Place Seed orders- The magazines will be coming in soon, but I know there are something I want no matter what. I want to get them ordered.

v  Paint the roof of the Green house. It has been painted in a few years. I want it to last a long time. Painting it will help.

v  Hook up the heat to the green house.

v  Sow Herbs – Start Thyme and Parsley seeds.

v  Sow Vegetables – Start Onion and leeks.

v  Start to plan next year’s gardens. What do I want to grow?

I am so thankful this year for having the time to get back into my garden.  Know COVID-19 was a huge pain, but it did give me so much time for my garden and a chance to geek out about it. We have plans to extent it this year. Then it will be as big as I want it until we decide if we want to move or not. What are you doing in your garden?

Gardening - 8 Weeks After Last Frost 2015- Weekly Goals

My garden book with my notes

By having a journal you can see what was going on in the garden the years before and that will help you prepare for your garden this week. As you can see last year around this week it was super hot and my plants were dying. This note will help me be prepared for hot weather and think about my plants in pots. Do you keep notes on what's going on in your garden? Does it help you with your garden?

Weekly Gardening Goals
  1.  Plant Fall Seeds - I need to plant lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots, and turnips.
  2. Hornworms - I need to keep an eye out for Hornworms.
  3. Cleaning veggie and fruit - I need to make some veggie and fruit cleaner.
  4. Mulch - I need to mulch around the fence around the garden.
  5. Harvest - harvest squash, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach, raspberries, and beans.

This week I also want to work on my gardening goals for 7 weeks before last frost. What are you doing in your gardens his week?
Check here to see what I did last week in the garden.

Gardening - 7 weeks after last frost 2015 - weekly gardening goals

My grasshopper water catcher

Rain rain go away, please come back next week. I don't know about you but I'm a little rained out. I'm good with one or two showers a week, but here in PA it feels like all it does is rain on the days that I have off. How is the weather were you are?

Weekly goals
  1. Rooting plants - I want to start to cut plants that won't seed and start to help them grow roots. I would like to do this to the lavender and rosemary.
  2. Blossom Blight - It has rained her so much that I need to keep a good eye on my plants. I have to really keep an eye on the squash so it doesn't get blossom blight.
  3. Plant seeds for fall harvest - in all the areas around the garden that haven't gotten plants growning in them I want to start to plant carrots, turips, Swiss chard, brussel sprouts.
  4. Plant the plants that are growning - I have flowers and veggies to get in to the ground. I want to work on that this week.
  5. Mulch - mulch around the garden fence. I planted plants in it but the wedding are coming back so fast. I really need to mulch it
What are you doing in the garden this week? What are your gardening goals?

Check here to see what I did last week in the garden.

Gardening - 6 weeks after last frost - planting

Doesn't look amazing yet but will shortly

My second goal this week is the frist goal that I got done. It was to Plant the rest of my peppers and orka- I started to plant them but haven't gotten to finsh it.  I need to plant the front box. I want to plant these awesome pepper plants and tomato plants there. I also want to plant my orka there. (To be honest I love their flower and can't wait to see it bloom). While getting my orka out of the green house I saw lost of sunflowers and calendula. Therefore I decide to plant them in that bed too. I also bought red, white and blue petunias for that bed to show my patriotic side.

I can't wait to see the flowers blooming!

This bed was a mess and short on dirt. I forgot to take a picture of it before. But it was a mess. It took 5 wheelbarrels of dirt and 4 wheelbarrels of mulch to fill up the box. I also filled up 2 wheelbarrow weeds. It was a long process. It took me 2 nights to finish it up.

Can you find the tiny tomato and pepper?

I know it doesn't look like a lot now, but in a few weeks it should look awesome! I can't wait to see my hard work pay off.

Gardening - 6 week after last frost - planting flowers

The 1st goal I have this week is Plant flowers- I have found so many great deals on flowers this week. I have 5 flats to plant and didn't paid $17. I got an amazing deal on this flowers and if they don't get planted then they will died. My tip is to start to look around and look for deals on flowers and seeds. Most place know that they can't sell to much more because people have their gardens planted and it's to late for the seeds.

I got so many flowers. One reason they were cheap. I love finding a good deal. They also will add color into my yard. I have 6 flower boxes around the house and these I use for mostly flowers to make the house pretty. I did buy so marigold for around the garden.

Have you found any really good deals on flowers or seeds? If so did you buy them?

Gardening ~ 12 Week After the Last Frost 2014 ~ Garden Bed 4

Garden Bed 4 ~ finished and ready for planting
I start this week with my biggest Gardening ~12 Week After the Last Frost - Weekly Goals my Garden Box 4. I'm going to plan fall crop in this garden bed. This gardening box is going to be half broccoli and half cauliflower.

What it Looked like before I finishes it

I started on this bed on Thursday morning. It was over grown and empty. I never got around to planting my wheat in it. My spring and summer were super busy this year. Luckily I will be able to plant Fall crops and get more out of my area

Bye- Bye weeds

I took the time to weed it. Then I handed tilled it. The bunnies love when I leave the garden! All the weeds go to them.

Rabbit Dropping to help fertilize the bed

I do though make out the best because then I use their droppings as fertilizer. Because the grass and weeds are now rabbit droppings, it is easier to finalize the garden bed with them. I am not waiting for the grass to decompose I just letting the water wash the little pellets into fertilize.

Top soil to add some rich soil to the box
After watching and finalizing my garden beds I always had a bag of topsoil. I do this to replace any dirt that has been washed away or pulled away when I'm weeding. Plus it adds rich dark soil to my garden bed.

I completed my gardening weekly goal of garden box four. I read it fertilize and got the bed ready for planting!

How's your garden coming? Do you have any gardening goals for this week?

Gardening ~ Gardening Goals - 4 Weeks Before My Last Frost (praying) Weekly Goals 2014

According to my book Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook, I am on Week 4, but I am so far behind. I am still playing catch up. This cold weather just makes me want to stay in bed with a book! Okay I know we have been spoiled the last few year and had light winters. Spring is coming in my garden though, I can see it is trying! Time for me to start to try!

Green Daffodil

 Weekly Goals
  1.  Harden off ~ broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, cabbage, and brussels sprouts. Do this by using a green house before planting into the ground. I have to get my green house up and ready.
  2. Plant seeds ~ I have so many seeds to plant! Every seed I want to grow needs to get planted this week.
  3. Clean up Gardens ~ My Gardens are a huge mess. It has been so cold, getting outside is hard. I have to get to it though. Luckly I have a 4 day weekend still. I am hoping to be in the garden everyday except Easter!
  4. Trees ~ I want to give them a little bit of fertilizer and new mulch. The girls have been taking the mulch off the trees.
  5. Bugs ~ Cleaning up my Rabbit Area, I came across at least 3 ant homes. I don't normal do this but because of the way the ants destroy my garden last year. I'm going to lay poison feed in their path. I don't want to kill all the ants. Last year I had over 40 different ant homes in my gardens. They were farming Aphids which were killing my plants. I'm hoping if i can take out a few ant colonies then maybe I will have less trouble this year!

What are your goals this week?

Gardening ~ 6 Before My Last Frost (2014) - #3. Cleaning up garden

My Mess Gardens
Wow, my gardens are a hot mess. The winter has done damage to my gardens. I have broken branch and dead plants. I can't wait to see it with things growing. I didn't get to work on all my garden beds, (there are a lot) but I did remove 3 wheelbarrows of weeds. But that was for a little area around Garden Box 3, I have so much more to clean up. It was nice to see it getting picked up.

Cleaning Up
Even though I got some of it cleaned up, I have so much more to go. How are are you doing in your garden? Are you cleaning up because of the winter? What is going on in your garden?

  3.  Research wheat plants and how to have them growing. This will be my first year growing wheat so I want to have as much information, on wheat as I can.
  4.  Order seeds - This year I'm ordering a lot of seeds from Braker Seed Company. They are Non-GMO organic heirloom seeds.  I'm doing this so I can start to save seeds and get a better seed for my area. I'm so excite to save my seeds, it will save me so much money.
