Gardening - Artichokes

I stared my artichoke, on January 14th. Yes I know it was a little early but they were old seed so I want to make sure they came up. I transplanted them about 2 weeks ago. Now they are looking said. My basement is colder then normal, because we can't get the fire to run right. (Our wood got wet, and with it being so cold it hasn't dried.) I can't move them, because me pets would kill them if they we upstairs. Does anyone have any ideas on how to save them. This is my 3 year with them and they always seem to die on me. Please help!!!
